2016 Whale Watching & Wildlife Cruise

Western Australia’s Kimberley is a world class whale watching region and home to the world’s largest population of Humpback whales.  Every year the whales make an epic migration from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to spend the winter months from June to October in the Kimberley’s warm, tropical waters. Here they mate and calve, largely undisturbed and sheltered by the islands and reefs of the Buccaneer and Bonaparte Archipelagos.

The whales have staged a magnificent recovery since the closure of the last Australian whaling station in the late 1970s, with the total population now estimated at somewhere between 28,000 and 42,000 individuals.

Kimberley Whale Watching has been studying the distribution and behaviour of these magnificent Kimberley Whales since 2006, building a database of whale distribution and a film and photographic library of whales, whale behaviour, distribution and tail fluke photos for identification purposes.

Wildlife Expedition Cruises

For the past eight years we have offered the opportunity to participate in “citizen science” by joining us on an exciting Wildlife Expedition Cruise on the Kimberley coast, through the whales’ calving grounds near the Kimberley’s islands and outer shoals, at the peak of the calving season.

Passengers have the opportunity to contribute to the collection of important information about the distribution and behaviour of the Breeding Stock D Humpback whale population, whilst viewing the Kimberley’s magnificent population of whales, seabirds and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

We have no cruises available for the 2017 season…. please sign up for our newsletter if you’d like to be informed about future cruises.
